Q: Murchison-Whom? Where did you get the name for the company?
A: One of the most commonly asked questions about our company is where we got the name, “Murchison-Hume”? The simple truth is: We stole it. Well, maybe borrowed is the more correct term (we did ask first).
Murchison-Hume is taken from my Father-In-Law, Dr. Roderick Murchison-Hume Kater. From the moment I heard it I loved it. To me, it has just the right mix of style and old-school gravitas.
Even better, the man himself is the embodiment of our company’s core values: practical, elegant, extremely durable and authentically eco-friendly.
Q: What makes Murchison-Hume products different from other cleaners?
A: Our surface cleaning products are based on Colloidal Technology (the most eco-friendly technology used to clean oil spills in the ocean).
They are highly effective, but more importantly, they are Marine Safe which means they have minimal impact on the environment and even boast “Down Drain Benefit”. This is a safer, cleaner way to eliminate bacteria and the spread of germs and that’s what makes our products are superior in both safety and performance to most supermarket cleaners.
Q: What’s in it?
A: All of our surface cleaning products are composed of three main ingredients: Biodegradable Colloidal Cleaner, which contains surfactants derived from sugarcane (polysaccharides), Water and Fragrance.
Q: What’s “Down-Drain Benefit”?
A: Murchison-Hume is Green all the way down to the ground. Unlike most cleaning products, We boast effective Down-Drain benefit. Colloidal surfactants have been used industrially for decades as a wastewater treatment; a soil conditioner for agriculture and as the surfactant of choice for cleaning up oil spills in the ocean due to its combination of high efficacy and has minimal negative environmental impact. Something most “Green” products cannot claim. Our products contain absolutely none of the long list of chemical additives contained in most so-called “Eco-Friendly” cleaning products.
Q: Is it safe for septic tanks?
A: Yes. Our products do not contain bleach or chlorine, which would harm the beneficial bacteria system.
Q: It looks like all of the ingredients are the same on your labels? Can I just use one product for everything?
A: Yep. All of our cleaners have the same base ingredients. The difference is in the dilution ratio, which changes the cleaning action and gives targeted performance for each different job. Also all of our products have different fragrance to surfactant ratios and some (like Boy's Bathroom) have significantly more fragrance than others (like Premium Glass Polish).
Just think of it like Mexican Food: The same basic ingredients; corn, beef, tomatoes, beans and cheese can make similar (but different) dishes: tacos, burritos, enchiladas and tamales! Same idea.
Q: Are Murchison-Hume products “antibiotic?”
A: Absolutely not. We don’t believe in “antibiotic” products because they can contribute to the creation and spread of “Super-Bugs”. Instead, our products actively clean by encapsulating and removing germ-friendly grime from surfaces at the molecular level, leaving them free from the dirt, fats and proteins that bacteria thrive on, thus discouraging
re-colonization and spreading without the use of harsh chemical disinfectants. Pretty clever.

Q: What surfaces can I use Counter Safe Surface Spray on?
A: All of our Cleaning Products are safe for any surface not harmed by water.
Q: What types of floor can I use Effortless Floor Splash on?
A: Any type! Marble, wood, terrazzo, & tile. Even leather (just don’t over-soak it). See above.
Q: Can I use Everyday Furniture Spritzer on wood as well as upholstered furniture?
A: Of course you can (isn’t that cool)? It’s the very first domestic use product design for both spot cleaning upholstery AND everyday dusting of ALL types of furniture.
Q: Are your fragrances all-natural?
A. Our products use ingredients derived from natural sources where possible, while maintaining high performance and excellent bio-degradability. We fragrance our products with a blend of both natural essential and fragrant oils (perfume). We try very hard to keep our fragrances natural as possible and the trace amounts of perfume aren’t environmentally significant.
